Revealed: The truth about Sensor Cleaning..
06/07/2012
You know there is this well developed myth that sensor cleaning is 'dangerous' and 'very tricky' and that you should send your camera away to have this done professionaly or you could face hefty repair bills.... Right....?

Wrong...

I kept getting dust spots on my images and despite blowing with my trusty Giottos blower and trying to get the spots off of my sensor they just wouldn't shift. I took my D7K to LCE in Nottingham where they charged me over £50 for a one hour service and when I used the camera again it was better, but there were still dust spots on the images.

I recently attended an exhibition where a demo was being done on sensor cleaning and I was amazed at just how easy it can be - yes, with a bit of care and OK, you can't be hand-fisted and clumsy, and yes you have to ensure that your battery is fully charged too, but honestly it isn't difficult to do... I have cleaned my sensor a few times now and all seems fine with the D7K...

Don't take my word for it take a look at these guys and do yourself a favour.... Sensor Cleaning and Tools for the job

Just a final note; there may of course be times when you do need to have your DSLR sensor professionally cleaned, but this will probably be once or twice a year at most and doing it yourself in between will almost certainly save you some time and your hard earned cash...
